GCL:

GCL loses its first game in a rain shortened game, 5-3, mid 8th.

The story of the day is 18YO Tim Cox, making his GCL debut, striking out 7 in three innings without a walk. His final line:

3IP, 4H, 2R, 1ER, 0BB, 7K

Yader Peralta with the loss. He hit gave up two hits, a walk and hit four batters in four innings. He gave up three runs, although only one was earned and struck out two.

Sheldon Fulse made his GCL debut, on a rehab assignment, but left after being hit with a pitch.

Jon Egan and Mike Jones each had two hits for GCL. Egan was caught stealing and was picked off.

Rough days for Ricky Sanchez (passed ball and error in limited time) and Emilio Linares (3 errors and was caught stealing).

Egan was replaced after his third AB. Still no Manuel Arambarris or Reid Engel.

Lowell:

MiLB is showing Jeff Natale in the starting lineup and in the game log. Therefore, the only logical conclusion is that he has been sent from Greenville to Lowell while Greenville is in its all-star break (or longer).

Pena gave up a single in the first inning but Pat Perry threw out the runner trying to steal.

EDIT: Pena went seven innings, giving up three runs (including a two run home run) and nine hits. In addition to the caught stealing, his defense turned three double plays behind him.

Offensively, there are big games from Soto (2/4, 4 RBI) and most everyone else. Everyone but Perry has a hit.

Lowell leads 7-3, mid 8th

Pawtucket:

After Adam Stern doubled to start the game, Dustin Pedroia was hit by a pitch and immediately left the game. No word on how severe his injury is.

uh-oh...

EDIT - The PawSox broadcast reports that Pedroia was hit on his right wrist. Still no word on severity. Machado ran for him.

Pawsox just tied the game at 1-1 on an Adam Stern bunt single, which scored a runner from first on a throwing error by Richmond's catcher.

Petagine draws a bases-loaded walk to score Stern, and Shoppach doubles home 2 more. Greisinger walks them loaded yet again, and he's done for the night.

4-1 Pawsox, bases still loaded in the top of the 5th.

EDIT - One of the announcers who saw Dustin's wrist said it was "noticeably swolen". He's been taken to the hospital for x-rays, accompanied by trainer Greg Barajas.

GCL Sox lose to the GCL Twins, 5-3.

Tim Cox, the 3rd of the Aussie Pitchers, made his American debut, going the first 3 innings. Tim gave up 4 hits, 2 runs (1 earned) while striking out 7. Yader Peralta went 4 innings and picked up the loss. Yader gave up 2 hits, a walk, a WP, 4 HBPs, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) while striking out 2. Remos Linares was slated to begin the 8th inning prior to the game being called.

Pawtucket defeats Richmond, 7-2.

Abe Alvarez picked up his 7th win, going the first 6 innings. Abe gave up 6 hits (1 HR) and 2 runs, striking out 4. Scott Cassidy followed with 2 perfect innings, striking out 3. Mark Malaska pitched the final inning, striking out the side while walking one.

Adam Stern trying to show he does belong in the big show went 3/4 with 2 doubles and a sacrifice. Luis Figueroa went 3/5 with a double. Kelly Shoppach went 2/4 with 2 doubles and a walk.

Alejandro Machado (who replaced Pedroia) went 1/3 with a walk. Dave Berg went 1/5. Roberto Petagine went 1/4 with a double and a walk. Mike Lockwood went 1/4 with an Intentional Walk and a SB. George Lombard went 1/4 with a sacrifice. Shawn Wooten went 0/5.

For anyone interested, some info on Tim Cox, there seems to be some confusion on his height, but the only thing I can find on that is his 2002 profile from the AAA 17 squad, but I will find out from the man himself and post later

What a relief to hear that Pedrioa is alright, I was getting worried and started seeing shades of Nomar. He is a tough and gritty guy, and he'll be back asap.

that sounds right, anh. My guess is that since he was 5'8"/5'9" when he was 15-16, he's prbably a bit bigger now in the GCL at age 18.
